Funding awarded for forming CCO Applied Cancer Research Unit

The PerkLab received significant support from Cancer Care Ontario from their Applied Cancer Research Unit program. The funding is for setting up a team for System Prototyping in Image-Guided Robotic Percutaneous Intervention, which will develop reusable and customizable software infrastructures to assist clinical translation of experimental diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The support is for 5 years.

Tamas Ungi received a 3rd Place Poster Award at the 9th Imaging Network Ontario Symposium in Toronto. His paper was titled "Augmented reality training to improve needle-based percutaneous interventions".

Laura Bartha is a Finalist in the CRA's Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award competition

Our Laura Bartha has been selected as a Finalist in the Computing Research Association's Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award competition for 2011. Laura's win is all the more impressive when one notes that the top 17 award recipients come from Princeton, Harvard, Rice, Tufts, Virginia Tech, Yale, Queen's, Vanderbilt, Rochester, Minnesota, Texas A&M, William and Mary, Berkeley, San Diego, and Brown.

Eric Moult received the Cameron Applied Science Scholarship

Join us in celebrating Eric Moult, the 2010 recipient of the Cameron Applied Science Scholarship. This award was established in February 2006 by Hugh Cameron, B.Sc. 1973, and Heather Hume, B.A. 1972, M.D. 1978. It is awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a student in third or fourth year of any program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science who has applied his or her engineering knowledge and/or techniques in an innovative manner related to non-traditional engineering fields.

Tamas Ungi receives Ontario Ministry of Research & Innovation Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Congratulations to our Tamas Ungi, who received an Ontario Ministry of Research & Innovation Post-Doctoral Fellowship, for his project entitled "Computational modeling of image-guided needle-based surgery". This truly is a grand achievement for Tamas who has recently relocated to Queen's from Hungary.
